## Short answer

Most people doing the low-FODMAP diet need two things: a trusted food guide and a diary. The Monash FODMAP app is the reference food guide, made by the university that developed the diet. Gutli is our pick for the diary side: meals, symptoms, the Bristol chart and each reintroduction challenge recorded in one place, private on your iPhone.

- **Choose this if:** Pair Gutli with the Monash app: Monash for what is in food, Gutli for how your body responds.
- **Choose the other option if:** Choose Spoonful or Fig if your main need is scanning products at the store, or mySymptoms if you want a long-established diary with a food database.

How we chose: We looked for iPhone apps people use on the low-FODMAP diet and ranked them for a reader going through elimination and reintroduction, on five criteria: help with the reintroduction phase, the quality of the food information, a diary your dietitian can read, how data is handled according to the App Store privacy label, and price as listed on the App Store on September 26, 2026. Facts about other apps come from their App Store pages. Gutli is made by Lucernel, the publisher of this page.

## Food guide, scanner or diary

Low-FODMAP apps fall into three groups. Food guides tell you how much FODMAP a food contains and at which portion. Scanners read a barcode in the store and tell you whether a product fits. Diaries record what you ate and how you felt, which is what the reintroduction phase depends on.

Few apps do all three well, so many people use two: the Monash app for food information and a diary for their own responses.

## Why reintroduction needs a diary

Reintroduction tests one FODMAP group at a time with rising portions over three days, and your notes decide what comes back into your diet. A diary that records the food, the portion, the time and your symptoms together makes the result clear for you and your dietitian.

## Check the privacy label

A food and symptom diary holds health information. The App Store privacy label on each page shows what an app collects and whether any data is used to track you. Among the apps here, Fig lists data used to track you; the Monash app lists only data not linked to your identity, and Gutli keeps your records on your iPhone.
