Short answer

Lawnzo is our pick for a plan that is independent of any product brand: it schedules the season for your grass type and region, checks each job against the forecast and keeps a journal of what you applied. Yard Mastery is the strongest choice for DIY owners who want soil temperature tracking and a large community, and Scotts My Lawn or Sunday if you want the products delivered.

How we chose: We looked for iPhone apps that plan lawn care and ranked them for a homeowner who does the work, on five criteria: a plan matched to grass type and region, timing checked against the weather, a record of what was applied, how data is handled according to the App Store privacy label, and price and independence from a product brand, as listed on the App Store on September 26, 2026. Facts about other apps come from their App Store pages. Lawnzo is made by Lucernel, the publisher of this page.

Plans, products and independence

Several lawn apps are made by companies that sell lawn products, and their plans use those products. That is convenient if you like the brand, but it limits your choice of fertilizer and timing. A brand-neutral plan lets you use whatever your soil test and budget call for.

Timing is most of the job

Most lawn work depends on soil temperature and the weather: seeding cool-season grass in late summer or early fall, not fertilizing before heavy rain, not mowing wet grass. An app that checks the forecast before each job saves more mistakes than one that only sends a date.

Keep a record

A journal of what you applied, when and how much shows what worked and prevents doubling up on nitrogen. Our free lawn fertilizer calculator turns a nitrogen rate into pounds of product for your lawn size.
