How we chose: We looked for iPhone apps that people use to quit p*rn and NoFap-style habits, and ranked them for a reader who wants to stay clean and recover after a fall, on five criteria: faith fit, help in the moment of urge (a pause, a prayer or a lock), blocking, price model and how data is handled according to the App Store privacy label. Prices, ratings and labels are as listed on the App Store on October 1, 2026 and can change. Facts about other apps come from their App Store pages. What a NoFap app should do

A day counter is the simplest piece, and many people start there. The harder part is the minute an urge arrives, and the days after a slip. An app earns its place if it helps in those two moments, not only if it counts.

The App Store pages of these five show different answers. Some give a program of daily lessons, some a blocker, some coaching, and one a prayer and a lock. Choose by the moment you struggle with most.

Faith and secular fit

Brainbuddy, QUITTR, Fortify and I Am Sober do not describe faith content on their pages. That is fine for many readers, who want a program or a tracker and nothing else.

Renounce is for Christians: prayer, a verse and the Bible are part of the loop, and falls are treated as a return, not a failure. If that fits, a secular program may feel like it is missing the point. If you are not a Christian, one of the others is the better fit.

Blockers and what they cannot do

Brainbuddy lists a content blocker and web filter, and QUITTR lists filtering and temptation blockers. Renounce uses Screen Time to lock the apps and categories you chose until you have prayed. Fortify and I Am Sober list no blocker.

A blocker slows you down; it does not decide for you. Our own advice: lock the apps you use at your weakest hours, and add a person you trust, since none of the apps here replaces a friend or church.

Price models and free trials

Four of these apps are free to download. Brainbuddy and QUITTR say a subscription is required for full access, Fortify lists monthly, annual and forever purchases, and I Am Sober is free to use with an optional Sober Plus.

Read the price on the App Store page before you start, and note when a trial ends. Renounce’s official page has current store details.

Privacy labels

Each App Store page carries a privacy label that the developer fills in. Apple notes that this information has not been verified by Apple. QUITTR lists identifiers and usage data used to track you across other companies’ apps and sites. The others list data linked to you instead.

Recovery data is sensitive. Renounce keeps streaks, prayers and the return log on your iPhone and syncs them through your own iCloud, and it also sends anonymous product analytics. It sends nothing to a partner.

When an app is not enough

If the habit is hurting your relationships, your work or your mood, or you cannot stop even though you want to, talk to a doctor or a licensed counselor. Apps are tools, and some people need more than a tool.

Our pick

Renounce, prayer first, in the minute it matters

If you are a Christian and the hard part is the minute an urge arrives, Renounce stops you first, then gives you a breath, a short prayer and a verse, and keeps the apps you chose locked until you have prayed. A return log records a fall and starts the next clean day. It is a tool, not a replacement for church or counseling.

  • SOS, a prayer pause and a Screen Time lock
  • Clean days, clean nights and a return log
  • The whole Bible, with saved verses and a daily verse
